Gut Check Tuesday #3

Posted by Bryce Wend on June 26, 2009

Ok so today isn’t Tuesday, you caught me (***raising hands up in innocence***)

It’s been such a WEIRD week this week. With picking up a cold in the middle of June (seriously?), divorce announcements (oh no you DID-NT Jon & Kate), celebrity deaths (goodbyes to McMahon, Fawcett and the King of Pop), a crazy work week for both of us AND oh yeah, our wedding anniversary mysteriously snuck up on us and was gone before we knew it.

WHAT… A… WEEK

Anyway, I digress… today I am grateful for:
1.  The Lose-It app for my iPhone, it just may be the magic ticket to dropping this weight.
2.  Mason being in a good mood this morning when he woke up.  It’s crazy how the mood of a toddler can determine whether you get out of the house at 6:15 or 7:00.  45 minutes attributed to stress, strife and an increase in blood pressure is NOT what I need every morning.
3.  Four wonderful years of marriage with decades more to come!
4.  The great music of Michael Jackson.  Thriller, PYT, Bad, Man in the Mirror all had a big impact on my life growing up.
5.  It’s Friday, nuff said.
6.  Living near a Trader Joes.
7.  Wedding season, looking forward to gathering with old friends.
8.  NyQuil.  That stuff is good, real good.
9.  Pandora Radio.
10.  The opportunity to work on a project that transforms the built environment for youth and community.

What are you grateful for today?

Gut Check Tuesday #2

Posted by Bryce Wend on June 16, 2009

I’m really needing to do this exercise today after a disappointing meeting with our City’s planning department last night.  I’ll leave out the boring details but lets just say that I’m feeling particularly discouraged right now.

So, in honor of remembering what is really important in life… gut check Tuesday numero dos.

Today I am Grateful For:
1.  My adorable baby boy’s giggles, it reminds me of a time in my life that was so much simpler.
2.  Having a job that allows me to get so buried in work that I forget it’s time to eat lunch.
3.  Mini cala lilies from the Farmer’s market
4.  Wet Ones antibacterial wipes. With a small toddler in daycare they are a mother’s dream come true.
5.  My cousin Vanessa’s mad haircutting skilz
6.  Being able to meet my hubby for a lunch date
7.  Having graduated from college
8.  Unconditional love from my fur-baby Hershey
9.  Having a Trader Joes nearby
10.  Fresh fruit in the Summer!

What are you grateful for today?

Gut Check Tuesday – Daily Gratitude

Posted by Bryce Wend on June 9, 2009

As I was running around the house this morning in a harried attempt to get out the door I noticed the book Simple Abundance on my bookshelf.

It has been over ten years since I originally read the book in its entirety, yet after several decluttering exercises it still remained on my bookshelf.  In hindsight this book has made an impact on my life.

The author, Sarah Ban Breathnach suggests that you write in a daily Gratitude Journal as you read along in the book.   This exercise proved to be an enlightening daily ‘gut check’ on what makes me happy and what is really important in life.

So in honor of this, my first Gut Check Tuesday post.

Today I am Grateful For:

  1. The financial ability to live in one of the most prosperous states in the most prosperous nation
  2. The health of my family
  3. My body’s ability to conceive and carry a child (no I am not pregnant again!)
  4. That we can afford a house cleaner
  5. My fellow countrymen and women that serve and protect my freedom
  6. That my wonderful husband is present in the raising of our son
  7. My job and the good opportunities it has brought me to grow and develop my character, particularly my integrity
  8. That the plain, fixer upper starter house that we bought five years ago has finally blossomed into a home
  9. My Cole Haan black patent leather peep toes.  I may not wear them very often but they make me happy whenever I look at them
  10. Time spent with old friends and the ability to just pick up where we left off regardless of how long it has been

What are you most grateful for today?
