Hello there! You have stumbled upon the personal website of Bryce and Casey Wend.

While our serendipitus story started on a cold snowy day in Reno, we now call the Silicon Valley home. We are both in our early-thirties working in the construction industry and have recently begun growing our family.

Come join us on our adventures!

Weekend Update: Front Yard Planting

Posted by Bryce Wend on March 24, 2009

This weekend we jumped on the good weather and got a little work done in the yard.  It was good for all of us to get a little sunshine.

Plus Mason got to play with his trucks and show his new trick to the neighbors:  standing up from squatting.

Despite the ‘Extreme Yard Makeover’ we did a couple of years ago we still have a couple trouble spots.  In particular, the planting area in front of our house is filled with some of our home’s original bushes and a couple large pampas grasses that we put in as space filler.

The problem with the pampas grass is it did it’s job too well.  It really fills the space up but sometimes to the point that it inflicts cuts on our visitors at the front door, with regular water it’s a very agressive growing plant.  The other bush is just plain ugly, it reminds me of what you would see planted on the side of a freeway.  So this weekend we pulled out two of the grass clumps, cut back the freeway plant (with failed attempts at pulling out it’s heavily entrenched root ball) and planted 15-20 Lily Turf plants to create a border.

We do have some more blue hybiscus plants that we’d like to put in but we need something to go in the place of the big pampas grass to cover the water spigot and frame out the entry, any ideas?
